i believe there should not be a big five league record separately. the big five changes every few years.. for example the dutch league was top 5 in the mid-nineties. i believe the record should not be separate.
I agree with the above. But more importantly, what are the sources for these figures? I see no references. 158.169.9.14 ( talk) 09:56, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

I did a little research and founded that there are several more players that have achieved 47 goals a season and a LOT more that have achieved 46. I will cut the number to 48.
And also...... it seems that 48 is quite common even though i havent got any reliable source yet. -- Yandri ( talk) 13:46, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

The correct ranking for goals in a calendar year is the following: Within official, FIFA accounts friendly national team matches but not domestic club ones.
1.Messi 91 2012
2.Müller 85 1972
3.Cristiano 69 2013
4.Deak 66 1946 *
5.Groo 64 1961 * -> By the way, this needs some source
6.Dean 63 1927 * I am pretty sure this data is
7.Cristiano 63 2012 from a season, not a calendar year
8.Cristiano 61 2014 FIFA said there is no official report
9.Cristiano 60 2011 (60 matches)
10.Messi 60 2010 (65 matches)
11.Messi 59 2011
12.Messi 58 2014
Whoever is blocking the change must be a vandal. I am admitelly merssi fan, which does not mean I cannot correct wrong information. Please correct it. Cristiano ronaldo only scored 63 ogals in official matches in 2012. If friendly mactehs are to be accounted, then MEssi record is 96 goals, not 91.

This trophie was awarded three times to barcelona, of which only 2 were actually played (as it is the old version of the supercup in which the winner of league and cup matched and in case both teams were the same the trophie was automatically awarded). Re: Section 3: Highest goal margin (aggregate) in European football This is incorrect as an aggregate of 21-0 has been achieved twice. Chelsea v Jeuneusse Hautcharage in the Cup Winners Cup 71-72 (8-0 and 13-0) and Feyenoord vs US Rumelange (9-0 and 12-0) in the UEFA cup 72-73. The record quoted is for the European Cup/Champions League only.
I do not wish to spend too much time looking for supporting references but the Wikipedia page at /info/en/?search=Chelsea_F.C._in_European_football states this and the results (for Chelsea) can be found in their online match database at: http://www.chelseafc.com/the-club/history/style/match-database.html. My father also went to the home leg!
The only reference I will state (albeit without further references in that article) is [1]

A user has twice re-added Rijeka to the list, which is not supported by the source. These stats should be directly verifiable by a reliable source, not requiring work to get the figure. Since the lead text is vaguely formulated, I would suggest formulating it as follows:
This article is about major club records and statistics across all professional club competitions for european association football clubs
instead of This article details men's professional association football club records and statistics (individual and collective) in Europe.
Referring to professional competitions, it is clear to which competitions the records and statistics refer. Otherwise it would have to be stated that friendlies, exhibition tournaments or pre-season tournaments are also included in the statistics and records, which would increase e.g. the number of most goals scored by Messi in the 2011/12 season by 2 goals in Barca friendlies to 75.
At C.Ronaldo they would even increase by 6 goals in the 2013/14 season, adding 3 goals in Real Madrid friendlies and 3 goals in the ICC (Int. Champions Cup).
Sources such as UEFA and IFFHS exclude this type of tournament from their statistics. Also, most media outlets and sports newspapers, when listing records and statistics such as "most goals in a season", disregard them.
For example, when citing Gerd Müller's total goals scored in all European competitions, the German media do not count the 5 UI Cup goals (rightly so, in my opinion).
This would increase them from 68 goals (34x European Cup, 4x UEFA Cup, 20x Cup Winners Cup, 7x Fairs Cup, 3x UEFA Super Cup) to 73 goals. However the 7 goals in the Fairs Cup are counted as goals in European competitions by the media outlets, even if it's not a UEFA competition.
--->
For this reason I think it's right to reformulate the lead text in this way and that's why I also explicitly mentioned the subcontinental competitions (Mitropa Cup, Latin Cup, Balkans Cup, Royal League, Baltic League) because, unlike the exhibition tournaments, they really represent serious competition for the teams involved and were not used for training purposes or presentation. If there are other opinions and everything should be included, I think that these should be then explicitly mentioned, otherwise there is a lot of ambiguity about what is taken into account in the records and statistics listed.

Most goals in a season in all club competitions (since the modern offside rule was introduced in 1925)
seems to me to be too long as a section title and, if there were no objections, I would instead suggest adding the additional information about the offside rule as article text directly after the section title:
Most goals in a season in all club competitions
Only the period starting from the implementation of the modern offside rule in 1925 is considered for this list. Under the revised offside rule introduced in 1925, a player would be deemed offside unless there were two opposing players (including the goalkeeper) positioned ahead of them. |

An attempt to rewrite the lead section to also remove the template with the warning in the article:
This article details the historical men's professional
association football club records and statistics (individual and collective) in Europe.
The records and stats look across all European clubs competing in the highest divisions and levels of European professional football, allowing for cross-competition comparison. Therefore, the coverage only considers for the domestic competitions the top-division of the national league and its cups (‹The template Category link is being considered for merging.› national cup, league cup, super cup); for the continental competitions all UEFA club competitions hosted by UEFA including —although not organised by UEFA— the Fairs Cup as the the predecessor to the UEFA Cup; and additionally on an intercontinental scale both the FIFA Club World Cup and its defunct predecessor the Intercontinental Cup, which was endorsed by UEFA (Europe) and CONMEBOL (South America). |

@ Mishary94: Do you enjoy ignoring Wikipedia guidelines? If you have a source for the information you are adding, you should be adding it. I don't have to add sources for you. About the display order of records, we should follow the UEFA source. Why do you insist reverting my access-date change and re-adding <br> to the lead, when you can simply add a space? I feel that you are editing in bad faith. SLBedit ( talk) 02:33, 27 December 2023 (UTC)
@ Mishary94 The blog [1] as a source does not seem to be entirely credible, as I believe the information is incorrect. Other sources give 37 league goals for Jardel in the 1999-2000 season at Porto and not 38 goals. Overall (in all competitions in the 1999-2000 season) there would be 55 goals and not 56.

The number of goals scored by the Brazilian in the Portuguese championship is not unanimous (148 for Record). All because of the second from FC Porto-Sp. Braga (3-0), played on February 5, 2000, and which our newspaper attributed to Chainho, as did “France Football” and Eurosport. After Chainho headed the ball to the goal, Jardel claimed that he was last on the ball and changed the direction, what Chainho not disputes. Nevertheless, the official match report by the fourth referee and the League delegate lists Chihnio as the goalscorer.
... Days later it was made public that the fourth referee and the League delegate indicated in their respective reports that it was the midfielder who scored.

After researching Celtic's winning streak from 1965-66 to 1966-67, which recently added to the list, I found that it included two Glasgow Cup matches, and the same for Belfast Celtic, I found that the streak contained 3 Gold Cup matches and 8 City Cup matches. These tournaments may be regional or unofficial. To be honest, I don't know, but there must be a fixed standard for competitions, because the abundance of local cups casts doubt on the record and streaks. -- Mishary94 ( talk) 02:27, 19 May 2024 (UTC)
