A fact from Engleromyces sinensis appeared on Wikipedia's
Main Page in the Did you know column on 5 September 2012 (

Did you know... that although collected in 1958, the fungus Engleromyces sinensis was not described as a new species until 52 years later?

"The asci have an apical apparatus that stains blue in Melzer's reagent; it is funnel or T-shaped, somewhat like a golf tee, and measures about 4 by 4 µm." This is a curious sentence. I assume the description after the semi-colon is of the "apical apparatus", rather than the asci? If so, have you any details of the characteristics of the asci themselves?
"The "Siamese jelly ball" fungus, Gelatinomyces siamensis, produces fruit bodies that are superficially similar to those of E. sinensis." Why the scare-quotes?
"This species of bamboo is known as either Fargesia melanostachys or F. yulongshanensis, depending on the authority." How about something like "Specifically, E. sinensis has been recorded from a species of bamboo variously known as Fargesia melanostachys or F. yulongshanensis, depending on the authority."
I've made some copyedits, please do check them. Sources are appropriate, spotchecks fine. Shame there're no pictures, but that's hardly surprising!

I've just fired off an email to the main author for a photo request, so fingers are crossed! Thanks for the review.
