The tone was way off! It was written as a first-person travelogue advice article, rather than as a formal encyclopedia article. It was also too long given the subject. If you look at some of the articles in
Category:Rail trails, you'll get an idea of the appropriate tone and length. The external link to your and others' articles will still be there, for those seeking a more detailed description.
As for the procedure for blessing your own writing elsewhere as a contribution to Wikipedia, there is one, but I don't remember where it is. Look around in the Wikipedia 'Help' articles and maybe you'll stumble across it. But basically, you'll have to do enough reworking to your current page to make it appropriate for Wikipedia, that it won't look like a copyvio anymore anyway.
