This article should be named 'History of seismicity in Japan' as seismology refers to the scientific study of earthquakes and other things seismic, whereas 'seismicity' refers to the occurrence of earthquakes, which is obviously what this page is about. I'll do this in a few days unless someone objects. There is no reason, of course, why there shouldn't be a 'history of seismology in Japan' as well, as the country has produced many famous seismologists.
