Fair use rationale for Image:Small province 0.gif

Image:Small province 0.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Scouting Ireland Province articles

Please see discussion at Talk:Scouting Ireland#Scouting Ireland Provinces, where I thought it might attract more eyes. -- Bduke (Discussion) 09:15, 20 September 2008 (UTC) reply

Merge of all 6 province articles here

The articles on the six Scouting Ireland Provinces lack references and encyclopedic content. They are just a list of Scout Groups. Wikipedia is not a directory certainly applies here. The main problem with these lists is that they are not verifiable and they are unmaintainable. Elsewhere these lists have been removed. All the UK County/Area articles had such lists, but these have been merged into region articles and the lists of troops have all been removed. The Singapore Scout Association had a very large list of Groups but that was removed. Lists of Groups have never featured for most other countries. I know of no other country now where we have such lists. These lists are unmaintainable because readers see there own Group and that of some nearby Groups. They see errors and add, edit or remove material to make it correct, but it is original research. It probably is correct, but it is not referenced. We can not distinguish it from vandalism. I am proposing that that all six articles be made into redirects to Scouting Ireland Provinces, where Counties in each Province an be listed. I asked for comment at Talk:Scouting Ireland#Scouting Ireland Provinces, suggesting that other material on Scouting in each Province could be added, but this has not happened. I was thinking of major events, campsites, media notice, history, etc. This could be added to the Scouting Ireland Provinces article and if that then gets too large the separate Province articles could be forked off. For now however, they should be merged with the Group lists removed.

The proposal therefore is to merge Dublin Scout Province, Northern Scout Province, North Eastern Scout Province, Western Scout Province, Southern Scout Province and South Eastern Scout Province to Scouting Ireland Provinces. The template {{ Scouting Ireland Provinces}} and the category Category:Scout Provinces in Ireland would then no longer needed and can be deleted. Please give your comments below:

I have completed the merge. While the proposal has not received a lot of attention, that appears to be a reflection of the general lack of interest in such articles. The merge in entirely compatible with the merges that have occurred for articles on Scouting in other countries and the general removal of lists of Groups and references to individual Commissioners and leaders.

Provincial Commissioners

I suggest that the names of Provincial Commissioners be not added to this page. First, they are not really encyclopedic and they can be obtained presumably from the SI web pages. Second, and perhaps more importantly, they could attract vandalism in the form of abuse, criticism and defamation directed as these people, thus giving rise to a living people problem. -- Bduke (Discussion) 22:52, 28 June 2010 (UTC) reply
