At the top of the page, it says the Democrat Party is conservative. Then the text goes on talking about it as a liberal party. Maybe a clearer distinction should be made, such as:
Their social politics are conservative, as they are against abortion and gay rights, while their economical politics are liberal, as they believe in low taxes and a small government.
Yes, the party is officially called the "Democrat Party" in English — see website. Jpatokal 05:27, 28 Sep 2004 (UTC)
The Democrat Party, led by Sathit Wongnongtoei on June 18, 2008 submitted to Deputy House Speaker Somsak Kiartsuranan a censure motion of no-confidence against Samak Sundaravej and 7 cabinet ministers in the parliament, to oust the 6-party coalition government led by Samak's People Power Party (PPP). The marathon debate would be held on June 28. xinhuanet.com, Thai Democrats launch no-confidence motion against PM and ministers in parliament nationmultimedia.com, Censure motion filed against PM, 7 ministers-- Florentino floro ( talk) 12:13, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
“ | The Democrat Party was founded on April 6, 1946, as a royalist party in opposition to parties affiliated with Pridi Phanomyong, one of the leaders of 1932 Revolution. Democrat Party founder Khuang Aphaiwong was appointed as figurehead Premier of a military government after Marshal Plaek Phibulsongkram seized power. After 1952, the party was in silent opposition to the military governments of Sarit Dhanarajata and Thanom Kittikachorn. After the 1975 parliamentary election, Seni Pramoj led a coalition government until the military coup that followed the military-backed 6 October 1976 massacre of anti-government protesters. In the government of Prem Tinsulanonda the party was part of the coalition. After the September 1992 parliamentary election, Democrat Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai led a coalition government until 1995, when it fell due to a corruption scandal, and again from 1997 to 2001, when it lost the first elections held under the 1997 Constitution. It was in opposition to the Thai Rak Thai Party government of Thaksin Shinawatra from 2001 to 2006, and also to the People's Power Party-led government in 2008. Prior to the 2007 parliamentary election, which it lost, party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva copied several populist policies which were made popular by Thaksin. The party gained power after the PAD's 2008 takeover of Government House and the Kingdom's two main airports. While in power, the Democrat Party-led government led a massive media censorship campaign and ordered a military crackdown on protesters that killed over 80 civilians and injured thousands. | ” |
After adding a footnote to the sidebar in explication of the party's logo, I removed the above text from the intro as it is repeated further on down in the article. I won't argue with any editor who restores it. -- Pawyilee ( talk) 08:30, 14 August 2010 (UTC)
Democrat Party (Thailand) logo Slogan is legible on their Facebook page: สจฺจํเว อมตา วาจา
I have corrected the article showing that Abhisit was re-elected as the party's leader and have removed the section entitled Party Leadership as I felt it conveyed nothing more than the infobox at the top of the page. Please feel free to reverse the latter modification if you feel so strongly about it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gonefishing ( talk • contribs) 18:48, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
This is an answer to a message written by IP 125.24.37.243 on my talk page. I answer it here in order to invite other users to join the discussion.
Original message: My reasons of indicating Democrat Party as "conservative liberal" is that because it seems almost absurd putting "Liberalism" in one line and "Conservatism" in the next; they simply don't make sense unless you say they're the right wing faction of liberalism. This also fits perfectly with the fact that the party seems to be liberal but conservative at the same time. Most importantly, the source for "conservatism" cannot be accessed (only for Financial Times subscribers) so it doesn't really help. Therefore, I believe it should be "conservative liberalism" as original. Regards -- 125.24.37.243 ( talk) 14:19, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
According to many Abhisit's interview, they actually advocate to militalism (they support coup).
