This appeared on page 2 of the March 27, 1896, Philadelphia Inquirer:
CROSSED THE NEW BRIDGE
The "Nellie Bly" Went Over the Delaware at Delair.
The "Nellie Bly" express on its daily run from Atlantic City to Jersey City yesterday morning crossed the new Delaware river bridge, owing to a wreck at White Hill blocking travel on the Amboy division. This is the first regular passenger train to cross the new bridge.
Engine No. 731, attached to the Mt. Holly accommodation train from Philadelphia, broke down yesterday afternoon at Dudley and delayed travel for about an hour.
It isn't clear to me whether the second paragraph, about engine No. 731, is meant to be relevant to the bit about the Nellie Bly. It sounds like an unrelated bit of train news. (Exciting day!)
