I always imagened that Deep River was a section within the Town of Saybrook. Presumably the current name was adopted to avoid confusion with Old Saybrook. The Old Saybrook Web site implies that Deep River was once a part (parish?) of the original, larger Saybrook.
In New England, this type of separation is common, and is normally described even a brief town history. Such detail should be part of this article.
The article states that several nearby towns were offshoots of Deep River. This seems counter to the idea that today's towns were originally portions of a larger town called Saybrook. Monomoit ( talk) 23:01, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
