I suppose the difference here is that the event led directly to a league-wide change, namely the installation of netting behind the goal line at every NHL arena. --

Incorrect/inaccurate information
This sentence in the legacy section "The netting has also been implemented by other hockey leagues and organizing bodies globally." should be removed or edited. Nets behind the goals were standard in Europe for at least several decades before this incident.
