The topic overlaps with articles on Chin Peng and the CPM. In addition the war seems to be more an intention on the part of the CPM than an actual fully-fledged conflict.-- Jack Upland ( talk) 02:07, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
It seems a large proportion of the article was copied from this PDF http://www.dtic.mil/cgi-bin/GetTRDoc?AD=ADA505882 - ( check) This document is

I have managed to cite most of the material in the article and I have also added several sources including Chin Peng's memoirs, Cheah Boon Kheng's short journal article, and several news articles in the Further reading section. Most of the article is still copied from Nazar Bin Talib's working paper but I'm trying to add in more balance and different perspectives. I've also added details about the Sarawak Communist insurgency. What do you think? Should it have a separate article of its own? There was little contact between the Sarawak and West Malaysian Communist guerillas. Chin Peng doesn't even mention the Sarawak Communist Organization in his memoirs. Feel free to share some ideas. I imagine readers might find the name ambiguous. Is the term "Communist Insurgency War" actually widely understood to refer to the Malaysian conflict, or should the article be renamed to something more specific? -- Paul_012 ( talk) 10:25, 4 December 2013 (UTC)
In light of the above view I'm going to propose renaming this article to Communist Insurgency War (Malaysia). I'm a Malaysian myself, but I've heard the term "Communist insurgency" used in other countries to describe their own conflicts (ie Rhodesia, Ecuador, Peru, etc). I hardly think it's fair to describe this on Wikipedia as The "Communist Insurgency War" - furthermore, it doesn't actually have a widespread standardised name in Malaysia as far as I'm aware (when I talk to relatives who can remember the insurgency, I have to use the general term "emergency" or simply "war against the communists" before I can get them to understand what I'm talking about). Malaysian English-language media generally follows a similar line. -- Katangais (talk) 22:48, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
So the renaming's completed. I decided to go with Communist insurgency in Malaysia because "Malaya" didn't accurately describe the name of the country when it was ongoing and we have already have a precedent set for similar articles in the ASEAN region ( Communist insurgency in Thailand, Communist insurgency in Myanmar, and Communist insurgency in the Philippines). However, to differentiate between this conflict and the First Malayan Emergency, I threw in the set of relevant dates at the end, and came up with Communist insurgency in Malaysia (1968–89), which we also have a precedent for on Wikipedia where separate articles on similar topics may generate confusion (ie Afghan Civil War (1989–92).
This also works well for our Malaysian readership, since there is no widespread specific term in use for this particular conflict and indeed, many Malaysians especially of the older generation do not differentiate between the first emergency and the second one.
FYI, Communist insurgency in Malaysia will now be an disambiguation page. Thanks, -- Katangais (talk) 09:05, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
