"The tower remained in profitable operation until after World War II, when it allowed the company..." - what is unclear here? "It" is clearly talking about the tower. if you'd like to rephrase it somewhat, please do so.

Aha, read it again & now it's clear. I was born in Mt Eden at the end of WWII & the tower is one of my earliest memories. My mother said there was an explosion there during the war and women were killed - any truth in that, I wonder? Cheers
