CLOVERDALE PIONEER DIES

CLOVERDALE. Oct. 17.— Mrs. Christina Gerkhart, a pioneer woman who gave this city its name and has resided here since 1856, passed away this week while sitting in her arm chair, resting after dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Hagmeyer. Mrs. Gerkhart was 89 years of age, a native of Germany and came to America when she was 16. She resided in St. Louis until her marriage to the late F. H. Gerkhart, when they came to California, settling on the present site of Cloverdale.
