I notice that this has a dispute tag on it, but no explanation here of what is disputed. User:Noclador, who added the dispute tag, wrote in his edit summary "tenures in the Army of Ireland and the Army of England??? hard to believe? can someone back this claim up???" I presume that is the statement of the dispute. I am not sure why it was stated as a dispute, rather than a request for citation, and I will attempt to contact him. - Jmabel | Talk 06:44, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
Charles Victor Emmanuel Leclerc was French general and he sure did neither serve in the Army of Ireland nor in the Army of England. The simple reason is: France and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland were at
war!!! The war began in 1793 and ended at Waterloo in 1815.
So a French general would never have gotten a commission as officer in the afro mentioned armies; but he might have served in the unsuccessful
French Army military expeditions to Ireland: either the one led by
Louis Lazare Hoche in 1796 or the later one led by
Jean Joseph Amable Humbert in 1798.

He was mentioned in the opening as "former slave", which is correct, but also misleading. He was also a forme slave owner, which makes a bit too much history for a simple mentioning, relevant is the fact that he was at the time of his arrest the "governor general" of the "French colony of Saint-Domingue" (colonie française de Saint-Domingue). So if someone has better choice of words, go ahead to rebrand the "Haitian leader". Kipala ( talk) 18:23, 17 April 2019 (UTC)
The result of the move request was: Moved to Charles Leclerc (general, born 1772). ( non-admin closure) Iffy★ Chat -- 19:37, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
Charles Leclerc (general) → ? – Current title is ambigous as there are two generals who could be refered to as Charles Leclerc (to complicate things they are both French and served under Napolean, the other one is
Charles Leclerc de Landremont) therefore this page needs to be moved elsewhere (as it is not the
primary topic) so that
Charles Leclerc (general) can be rediected to
Charles Leclerc (disambiguation).
