"Pidgin" verses as caricature

The fact that this article has been tagged as part of the Military History WikiProject and other US military listings, seems to indicate that a bot is automatically including articles on anyone who participated in the US Civil war. Obviously this too-broad sweep will gather a lot of articles biographies of people like Leland, who although he served in the Union army, cannot really said to have contributed much more to history than the two and a half million other soldiers he fought alongside. WikiProject_Military_history says: Note that military service does not in and of itself place an individual within the scope of the project—particularly in the case of service in modern militaries. To qualify them, an individual's military service must have been somehow noteworthy or have contributed—directly or indirectly—to their notability. By that standard, this article does not qualify for inclusion, and ought to be removed from the project. Proptology ( talk) 18:40, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
The article doesn't give any examples of his humor. I found many sites, but I didn't feel like trying to add anything to the article. Here's one source. http://www.bartleby.com/227/0204.html 99.9.112.31 ( talk) 20:45, 1 November 2010 (UTC)NotWillDecker
Four poems written by Leland appear in the Library of America collection _American poetry: the nineteenth century_ vol. 2. They are all in mock German. Here's a sample:
I stoompled out ov a dafern, Berauscht mit a gallon of wein, Und I rooshed along de strassen, Like a deripple Eberschwein.
All very low humor. Purslane ( talk) 22:28, 13 September 2016 (UTC)
