I would be inclined to delete: "During the time of Chauvel's service on the Lottery Board and on Meridian (the commercial entities in respect of which public records are available) each business grew substantially in value and profitability." as it reads too much like advocacy, as it seeks to link his presence on a board with the increase in value.
It is inappropriate to write "gay partner", when it is factually correct to write "male partner", and it is less offensive, too. After all, straight people don't have "straight partner" or "heterosexual wife or husband", they just have a note that at the most indicates the gender of their partner, often not even that. This use of "gay partner" is more likely to occur in provincial newspapers, like "lesbian lover", and appears disapproving (and is therefore not neutral). Kiwimw 07:20, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
Why specify the sex? Why not just "partner"? IdiotSavant 13:59, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
I suggest moving the lines "In November 2007, he became Chairperson of the Parliament's Finance and Expenditure Committee, and in early 2008 was appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Attorney-General roles in which he served until the 2008 New Zealand general election." to the "Member of Parliament" section. This would make the introduction more concise and current while maintaining the detail in an appropriate section. Rgiltrap ( talk) 01:54, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

This article is far too long and contains a superfluous level of detail. To gauge what might be an appropriate level of detail look at the page of any current New Zealand Member of Parliament, remembering that Mr Chauvel has had Parliamentary careers far shorter than some of them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nick3fry ( talk • contribs) 01:44, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
This is obviously a self written advert of a man who actually ranks very low in the New Zealand political world. It needs some serious deleting of basic info that adds nothing to the page, or wiki as a whole. Wiki should not be used as an ad for oneself. Towack ( talk) 06:44, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
I have spent some time in removing and editing to better reflect the time career of Charles Chauvel. Towack ( talk) 09:40, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
