Because of its close location to Palm Springs, the city has a large gay/ lesbian population. Local rumor has it the choice of color for the street signs, lamp posts and the city's new logo, purple is subliminial for gay pride. I doubt it since the official symbol of gay pride is the rainbow flag or the pink triangle. Cathedral city has widely accepted the residents, regardless of sexual orientation, as their own. The liberal attitude associated with Cathedral City made it easy throughout its history for Jews, Latinos, Asians and black Americans to live there and create large parts of an integrated diverse community, where over two-thirds of the population are non-white minority groups. + Mike D 26 04:59, 28 October 2006 (UTC) 12:43, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
I'm glad the merger fell through, or else Desert Hot Springs would've been the next "victim"... Michaela92399 01:51, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
I have reverted several IP edits which delete the section on Public Safety. None of these edits explained the section blanking. In any event, the original section (which I restored, never created) contains citations to [1] which can show bar graphs displaying crime rates and numbers (citing other sources). Either way the source is cited, the graphs come out with similar presentations. Compare http://cathedralcity.areaconnect.com/crime/compare.htm?c1=Cathedral+City&s1=CA&c2=Palm+Springs&s2=CA with http://palmsprings.areaconnect.com/crime/compare.htm?c1=Palm+Springs&s1=CA&c2=Cathedral+City&s2=CA .
But look at the resulting graphs. The city with the "higher" crime rate has bars which go to the top of the graph. The comparison city and the national average bars are lower. Sadly, though, the lowering of the comparison cities is deceptive. Look at the murder rates for Palm Springs, Cathedral City, and the US. Palm Springs, with a 6.3 murder rate has a bar that goes to the top, but Cathedral City and the US have bars that go only partially up the graph even though the murder rates for Cathedral City and the US are higher (7.7 and 6.3 respectively)! A worse presentation occurs with the Assault graph - the numerical US rate (336.5) is higher than Cathedral City (291.3), but the Cathedral City bar is longer!
With these inaccuracies (deceptions?) in mind, I am deleting the section as it is based on an unreliable source. -- S. Rich ( talk) 18:02, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Come on! The third paragraph "Others like historians say..." Even without the needed citations to such historians, this is no way to word this. "Historians say..." (and the citation) or "Others say..." (and the citation), but not this. Seriously, who wants the opinion of someone who is merely like a historian?
Secondly, whether the large LGBT community exists or not could be easily cited from local reliable sources. If it is true that its existence is greatly exaggerated, I would imagine that the legend of its existence, if it is such, has also been refuted by either reliable local sources or perhaps regional or national reliable LGBT sources. 75.252.51.234 ( talk) 23:55, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

I'd like to delete the census info since more recent info (2010) is also listed in the article. I've never seen an article that retained older info, generally it's just data from the most recent one that is retained. Hoping no one has an issue with this? 2603:8001:2A00:7428:FCF3:8D31:99AD:F35C ( talk) 04:20, 19 April 2024 (UTC)
