Wiki Education Foundation-supported course assignment
This article was the subject of a Wiki Education Foundation-supported course assignment, between 14 January 2021 and 11 April 2021. Further details are available
on the course page. Student editor(s):
LivyRosa. Peer reviewers:
Morgan.b18,
ShanPitt.
I see we have some student editors here at the moment, so let me quickly suggest some improvements to the article:
The article should explain how this concept interlinks (or differs) to
climate-smart agriculture (see also below, now done)
Think about grouping that long list that appears under techniques into suitable sub-groups so that we don't have so many Level-2 headings there. - DONE.
The lead is not a good summary of the article.
The section on criticism should be renamed and reworked as per
WP:CRIT. - DONE.
Add more images, in particular an image to the lead.
I don't understand that section called "Four per 1,000" and why it's under "history". Perhaps rename that section to "Examples"? - DONE.

I just added to the lead of the article to try to give a better summary and more context. Can you let me know if my changes are okay? I'm also planning on addressing some of the other improvements you've listed here as well. Thanks!

I've just re-focussed the article to agriculture and forestry. The water-based options are better dealt with at
carbon sequestration and at
blue carbon. Otherwise we end up with same/similar content in many different articles and need to update information and numbers in lots of different places. So that's why I have moved the content about wetlands and seaweed farming to the other articles.

Proposal to add 2x2 image collage to the lead
I think this article would benefit from a 2x2 image collage for the lead, similar to the ones at
climate change adaptation and
climate change mitigation. It could show nicely the range of carbon farming options, rather than just one image of a researcher. What would be the main 4 methods that we'd want to show images of? Maybe:
Organic farming
Wetland restoration
Something to do with compost?
Something to show how GHG emissions are reduced in agriculture?
We would only have space for 4 images so would have to make a selection, and might as well pick those that are currently most promising with some due weight consideration (?). Pinging

Collage idea wih 4 pics is a good one. Possible additional topics:
biochar and terra preta, adjusted tilling and reforestation all of which have a positive impact on sequestration and reduced emissions. Not sure if wetland restoration should be classified as a farming activity.

I agree with you about the wetland restoration aspect and have removed the sentence about wetland restoration from the lead now. Pinging
User:Lfstevens as they had put it in (a while ago). - How does a photo with adjusted tilling look like? How do show a "no tilling" approach for example? (I haven't checked yet if anything is available on Wikimedia Commons).
