Carbon atoms comprise a nucleus of neutrons and six protons surrounded by six electrons. Quantum mechanics dictates that the first two electrons occupy the inner atomic orbital, while the remaining four electrons have wavefunctions that only half-fill the second standard and three second principal orbitals. Half-life mentioned in the "Isotopes" section should be changed from 5730 years to 5700 years.
Reasoning: 5730 years is a historical value, with new sources indicating 5700 years, instead. The value of 5700 years can also be found in the list of isotopes in the InfoBox on the top of this page. Valentyn235 ( talk) 08:33, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
