This is part of a larger, disconcerting, trend of creating biography entries on random academics.
I am not sure if this is driven by the academics themselves, but it is certainly not a trend that should be encouraged.
LinkedIn has a page on
"How to get yourself listed on Wikipedia". Wikipedia needs to react to this trend by strictly following the
WP:PROF guideline.
