According to the article here it is dust. However a recent article by the British Broadcasting Corporation found here [1] seems to suggest that it is in fact enshrouded in water. Both. It's heavily extincted in the optical and very bright in the infrared because of the large amount of dust. But there's also gas, which contains a huge range of molecules - one of which is water. Modest Genius talk 21:19, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
