Why references to areas which are not part of the British Arctic Territories?
I don't see why there are the references to the North-Western Territory and Rupert's Land, and how those lands became part of the various provincesof Canada. Those lands weren't part of the British Arctic Territories and were added to Canada earlier, in 1870. —

Half a year on, and no-one has commented on this point, so I went ahead and deleted the lengthy discussion of Rupert's Land and the North-Western Territory as irrelevant to this article; inserted a short summary with wiki-links to the articles on those regions. --
