It should be mentioned that this novel has undeniably feminist. It was written in the 20s, and many publishers did not print it because it was a story told from a woman's point of view, and that view potrayed the father as lazy, stupid, and angry.

Reb is not the father's name, it is his title (yiddish for Rabbi).
