It has been proposed that the article
Best-selling albums by year (USA) should be merged into this article. I agree, although the information in the source page is far more accurate than what currently exists on this page, and should be used as the information if the merge is approved. (Each of the listed albums includes a cite to the relevant Billboard Year-end chart from the Billboard website.) I will wait ten days, and will interpret a lack of comments as agreement, at which time I will complete the merger.

I went through all of the Year-End Albums and corrected the numerous errors. I included a link to Billboard's Year-End Chart (from the Billboard website) to establish the accuracy of my changes. The only album for which I don't have a Billboard link is the 2006 album; for that, I have used a cite from E! online. (Owned by Time-Warner, I think they constitute a reliable source for this issue.)
A quick look at the singles showed a pretty good concurrence with Billboard's charts, but they could use referencing as well. (A project for another day...) - —Preceding

Thanks for doing this, although I've noticed something interesting... at first glance I reverted your edit because I'm looking at a Billboard reference book (noted in the article) and some of the #1 albums are different. That doesn't make any sense, considering that both your source and mine is Billboard (me using a Billboard book and you using their website). I'm going to revert my revert as your version has external sources. I will re-add Carrie Underwood as 2006's #1, however. -

This article's header makes it clear that before 1991 points were used rather than actual sales. So that might explain why 'We Are the World' was not the #1 on the year end chart.

Other year-end charts
I would consider having year-end charts for the other Billboard charts in this article, such as for the R&B/Hip Hop chart, the Alternative and Mainstream Rock Chart, the Adult Contemporary chart, etc.

There's gotta be a better way to display this stuff
A table perhaps, with each year on its own row, spanning multiple columns? I'll work on this and try to come up with something a little easier to navigate. -

About to implement a new layout - much easier-to-navigate table by year (no scrolling up and down back and forth for the different genres). Also cleaned up a large number of incorrect wikilinks and redirects. Hope this is better for readers. -

I'd like to propose highlighting songs that hit number one in each year's table. Using
1990 (my year of birth) as an example, here is what it would look like:
The song
hit number-one on the Hot 100 at some point during the calendar year The song hit number-one at some point during the previous calendar year (
1989)
