@
NMaia: Jon Phillips was a longtime friend of Bassel's and the founding organizer of the Free Bassel campaign.
The Guardian,
CBC, and
Creative Commons, frequently quote and cite Jon as an important source with respect to Bassel's work and his particular involvement with Wikipedia and the Creative Commons. Despite our Wikipedia policies regarding verifiability, you could not have a better source; it's very likely that reliable publication will use Jon's statement here as a trusted fact in any of their stories.
