Unfortunately, The Plant List is misrepresenting its sources in this case. TPL says that the source for Vasconcellea heilbornii being synonymized under C. pentagona is Tropicos. The Tropicos record for
V. heilbornii doesn't synonymize it. The Tropicos record for
C. pentagona shows that name being synoymized under various combinations of the epithet heilbornii (most recently as Vasconcellea heilbornii). While many (mostly older) sources do state that babaco is C. pentagona, there is no good source synonymizing V. heilbornii under C. pentagona (just an erroneous listing in TPL). Vasconcellea heilbornii is the most recently used name for the species by V.M. Badillo. Wikipedia follows Badillo's classification for all the other species in Carica and Vasconcellea. While I don't understand Badillo's decision to leave
Carica monotypic (do papayas not have any close wild relatives?), it seems better to consistently follow this single classification, then to mix and match competing taxonomic opinions.

I think this should be changed to a cultivar box for Babaco or move it to its own page it is a cultivar of V. heilbornii and the parentage is V. stipulata and the other one is debatable based on this
