It's actually incorrect to state that Schmidt discovered the Apadana hoard. Schmidt was working with Ernst Herzfeld and Herzfeld's assistant Friedrich Krefter. Schmidt himself, referring to the discovery of the foundation deposits, states in his 1957 publication: "Discovered by Krefter during Herzfeld's directorship..." (Schmidt, Erich. 1957.
