Changed "saccharin" to read "saccharine". Saccharin refers to the substance, I think author was referring to the adjective saccharine. --

We recently got this contribution by
User:Giovannuzza, which I've moved here until it makes sense:
Now Selling prints for £200 each! - "Prints will begin around the £200 mark and will rise to around £4,000 - far, far below the minimum of £25,000 he usually charges for a work" - from an article by Duncan Higgitt of The Western Mail, Wales Feb 11 2006
Now the good thing is that it appears to be a direct cite from a recent Welsh paper. However, it seems a little out of context. I don't think it is intended as advertising. Is the intention that it illustrates that Vicari has now fallen on hard times? --

Did he really go to the Slade at the age of 13? Surely either the Slade dates or his birth date are wrong, but a quick Google couldn't track down the right ones.

Good point. This
article from the Telegraph places him at the Slade in the early fifties (and a date of 1956 for an event after leaving the Slade), so it may be a problem with the DoB. On the other hand, perhaps he really was 13 at the time -
WelshHeroes.com says he was the Slade's youngest ever student and also quotes the 1938 year of birth. If so that would be worth clarifying in the article. --
Solipsist19:26, 30 August 2006 (UTC)reply
Oh, and here's another
good reference from the BBC which includes the DoB, mention of a Welsh painting competition won at aged 12 and studying at the Slade from 1951 for 3 years. So that seems to check out. Other articles also mention the competition at aged 12. On the other hand,
this article quotes/paraphrases Vicari as saying he won £10 in the local painting competition at age 14 and gives more details about the competition than most web sites. --
Solipsist19:53, 30 August 2006 (UTC)reply
Interesting to note that that article also quotes him as winning the National Eisteddfod at age 14. And if his art teacher entered him into that competition, he must have still been at school and not yet at the Slade. So I suspect there must be an 'out by two' error in one of the dates. Or could he have been attending the Slade part time whilst still being at school in Wales? --

Thanks for spotting that, I must admit I was seduced by the paintings and the (very interesting) film footage. I realise this can't be used as a source for anything in the article, but is it also prohibited as an External link? Is that site banned by Wikipedia? As a mirror site, it's a bit out of date, isn't it. Thanks.

Not this one, per
WP:COPYVIOEL (the images). I'm usually pretty conservative about adding links to the blacklist - I've only added one other abusive mirror. This will probably be added soon.

Thanks for the tip off. I'll revert. What about the 1963 film clip, which is properly published by Archif ITV Cymru/Wales @ LlGC | ITV Cymru/Wales Archive @ NLW:
[1] and has Vicari speaking about his work?

Posted. I dont have much hope for those other two External links. Nothing returned in the chwilio
here and I suspect no-one around to run his official website any more.
