Change this:
Andrew Johnson was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, on December 29, 1808, to Jacob Johnson (1778–1812) and Mary ("Polly") McDonough (1783–1856), a laundress. He was of English, Scots-Irish, and Scottish ancestry.
To this:
Andrew Johnson was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, on December 29, 1808, to Jacob Johnson (1778–1812) and Mary ("Polly") McDonough (1783–1856), a laundress. He was of English, Scots-Irish, and Irish ancestry.
The 1901 Census is the closest thing I can find regarding the ethnoreligious background of those bearing the surname.
However, little would have changed these demographics over the centuries since the birth of Mary McDonough.
Not done: This is
original research, which is not allowed on Wikipedia. We can't infer someone's ancestry based on their last name. If you have a reliable source directly confirming she was Irish feel free to open another request.
