"This skill brought her to the door of 10 Downing Street to assist with translations" - what does this mean? Why would she be assisting with translations at the door of 10 Downing Street rather than properly inside the building? It's not encyclopaedic language. Did the writer mean that she worked for the British government, or did she really specifically translate at the official residence of the prime minister?

That is a fair question. I was under the impression that she had married a vet and lived somewhere in east anglia in obscurity. What happened to that? The street in Hove where she passed her childhood is completely nondescript and has a men's tailors and outfitters on the corner. It seems that it was her mother who had a contact in TV which produced her first job at age about 15. The rest of it about languages is hogwash.

I've just read the article and was immediately struck by "the door of 10 Downing Street" line and thought the same as EarldelaWarr above. What does that phrase mean? She was standing by the door calling out translations? She either worked for Number 10 or she didn't. Please clarify someone who knows...
