User:Thriley, according to
Wikimapia, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Lake has its unusual name due to its location "next to the State Psychiatric Hospital." (I'm assuming there is an alcohol and drug abuse rehab facility near the lake.) The problem is, Wikimapia is not a reliable source per
WP:CIRCULAR.–

I propose to rename this article to 'Village Lake (South Carolina)' or similar, as that is the
new official name adopted 9 June 2022. Additionally that is one of the
names used by the owner, unlike the present name of this article. Any thoughts?
Thanks for your great edits
Brycehughes. I think this page is in good shape now regarding the lake's rename. As to whether the article should be moved, I don't know what the Wikipedia 'rules' or conventions are in this situation and I'm happy to defer to what I assume is your significant experience in these matters.

Hi
Citruswinter, the relevant policy is
WP:PLACE. In a nutshell, when a place's "widely accepted name" differs from its official name, then we should go with the widely accepted name. So the question would be whether "Village Lake" is the widely accepted name. I don't think it is... at least, not yet.
