The maps depicting members and suspended members have a mistake - they indicate Guinea as being suspended instead of Ivory Coast. Guinea's membership in the AU is just fine. It's Ivory Coast that's been suspended. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.11.195.241 ( talk) 03:01, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
Central African Republic has been recently suspended, it should be light green. Also regarding the map, Somaliland has never been a member.— Preceding

The sections on interventions in support of democracy and military interventions need serious work to consider (in particular) all the work of the Peace and Security Council. I have deleted the material under the 'elsewhere' heading as irrelevant to the AU - though the conflicts mentioned are real, there is no discussion of any AU role, and in many cases there is in fact no AU involvement. The Democratic Arab Republic is recognized by the AU as a member, so the map on the page should reflect that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.235.169.143 ( talk) 06:31, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
The map also shows Morroco as a member state, which it is not. I believe Western Sahara and Morroco have been switched by accident. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shawnanigans ( talk • contribs) 02:32, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
Dear all,
Could you please update the map THE map FOR MOROCCO is incorrect as officialy and commonly updated By the ARAB LEAGUE AND THE USA. AFRICAN UNION should not take part on this conflict.
Also how can we explain that there is no people of the Sahara in Egypt or in Libya or in Tunisia or in Algeria knowing that the Sahara goes from the Atlantic coast in the Moroccan Sahara to Egypt. It is a people of the Sahara who exist only in the Moroccan Sahara ???. It is a conflict that has lasted too long because of Algerian propaganda and their petrodollars for hegemonist and expansionist purposes and above all to slow down the development of Morocco which without gas or oil was advancing and still moving in the right direction even if this fratricidal conflict has nevertheless impacted our development. This kind of speech only feeds the ideals of Algerian/Iranian generals and therefore the conflict Member states of the Arab League?Member states of the Arab League?AFRICAN UNION? unsigned 76.235.169.143 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Achahmi ( talk • contribs) 15:12, 27 December 2021 (UTC)

Could someone explain why the union has Spanish as a working language? Equatorial Guinea is the only country on the continent where Spanish is spoke and there are hundreds of languages in Africa which have more speakers. Aaker ( talk) 23:27, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
Spanish is one of the official languages of the African Union, and Spanish is not just spoken in Equatorial Guinea, but also in Western Sahara and parts of Northern Morocco...anyway what do you have against Spanish being one of the official languages of the African Union?
Article 11 "Official Languages of The African Union" In Article 25 of the Act (Working Languages), replace the title “Working Languages” by “Official Languages” and substitute the existing provision with: 1. The official languages of the Union and all its institutions shall be Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Kiswahili and any other African language. 2. The Executive Council shall determine the process and practical modalities for the use of official languages as working languages. The AU has been subjected to harsh criticism, yet there has been no mention of its past failings.
Reading the article and seeing the obvious parallels between the established EU and the fledgling AU, it is obvious that the AU was at least in part inspired by the broad success of its European counterpart. Can any editor substantiate this? Was any admiration for the EU's goals and structure made by any party druing the set up of the AU or its predecessors? juux ☠ 20:21, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Since this edit in early November 2009, the article claims that Eritrea is currently not a member of the Africa Union. Since this edit has never been disputed, I was stupid enough to change the map accordingly. Now, I am wondering whether there is any evidence for this. I have just found evidence that speaks against this claim:
As I see it now, I will have to revert my edition to the map. Accordingly, the article will need to change as well. Tomeasy T C 10:22, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

The page should be updated with regards to the current situation in Libya. The page still lists it as a member, even showing the tricolor flag of the opposition National Transitional Council. The original Constitutive Act named "if possible, African languages, Arabic, English, French and Portuguese" the "working languages" of the African Union. In a 2003 amendment "working languages" were renamed "official languages", and the list was expanded to "Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Kiswahili and any other African language". However, I see no indication that the 2003 amendment was actually ratified; in fact, the AU treaties page doesn't give a date for "entry into force". Thus for all I can tell (and for all the AU says), the old Constitutive Act is still in force. A YouTube video of a press release by one politician from a single country is not a reliable source on the official status of languages in the AU absent written confirmation that the AU actually agrees with him, which I cannot find. All I did find was an undated document reiterating that the 2003 amendment had not yet been ratified by enough countries to enter into force, particularly in the context of the status of Spanish within the AU. Thus I'd say we should base our coverage on the unamendend Constitutive Act unless there are reliable sources confirming that it has been amended. Huon ( talk) 02:58, 21 September 2014 (UTC)

So the list of AU summits has been expanded; Thanks to User:MarnetteD. However, it seems such a list would rather be on its own page. Its a very long table and I think could be moved to its own page. I'm thinking of creating an infobox template for a transnational government (or some such) that could be used to replace/expand the infobox currently at the top of this article's page. It would include sections for its official bodies (similar in nature to the one on Federal government of the United States that uses Template:Infobox presidential government) and maybe be informed by the European Union's infobox. Such a template could take on some of the information from the AU series infobox lower on this page. Thoughts? - Inkwzitv ( talk) 19:38, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
The infobox that is part way down this article's page that describes itself as "This article is part of a series on the politics and government of the African Union" includes a section titled "Institutions". That list is a mix of now-obsolete entities (e.g., OAU, which was replaced by the AU), defunct entities (e.g., Casablanca Group) and others. I think it would be more useful to list current official bodies (such as in the Politics section of the page text that is currently to the left of this infobox). And maybe add a section to this infobox for affiliated organizations (tho' I'm not sure how to bound what might be added to an "affiliated" list). Thoughts? - Inkwzitv ( talk) 19:38, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
