A fact from Aaron Livesy appeared on Wikipedia's
Main Page in the Did you know column on 4 April 2010 (
check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
I have placed merger tags on a number of character articles. Rather than repeat the reasoning on each talk page I have set out the full argument
here. Please feel free to leave comments either on this talk page or at the WikiProject. I want to try and start a debate about the whole way in which Emmerdale information is provided on Wikipedia —The preceding

Please do not edit this page until after friday 9th April, instead of editing information after every episode, it would be better to do a summary after the week has finished

As above, I will be editing this page after the episode on the 12th of April has aired but after that please do not edit this page until after friday 16th April, so a weekly summary can be added.

You can't add a weekly summary of storylines to an article, think about how long it will get. You need to take the important storylines that the character has been/is involved in and add them to that section. It's nice to see that the article is being kept updated though, some soap opera character articles often go for long periods without any update. -
JuneGloom07Talk? 17:39, 12 April 2010 (UTC)reply
This article goes into far too much detail, and sounds like it should be on a fansite rather than an encyclopedia. Only large, changing plots need to be given great mention, we can't go detailing each and every action of every episode. In addition, I think there are too many images in this article, especially given that most of them can easily be replaced by a text explanation of the content, which makes them unneeded and violates our Non-Free content policies.

I agree with Sodam Yat. Those headings in the storylines section need to be taken out and replaced with Background for his life prior to moving to the village and then 2008— for his storylines. An episode by episode summary is not needed, just the important storylines that he has been involved in. Some of that Development section could probably be trimmed too and where are the retrieval dates for the references? -
JuneGloom07Talk? 17:31, 12 April 2010 (UTC)reply
Thanks for bringing that to our attention. I don't have time right now, but I'll try to chop that one down to a manageable size soon.

Okay, lets see if we can improve this article. I'm using
Declan Napier, which is a
GA, as an example.
Change Development to Character development and place the casting info under that.
Information like, Livesey's character was first described as a teenage tearaway and the village "bad boy" when he re-appeared in 2008, can be included under a Personality and identity heading.
All the information about his Sexuality storyline can be placed under Sexuality. Start the section with something like A high profile storyline for the character was when he began to question his Sexuality. and add a brief description of how it developed (He kissed his friend one night, etc). Then add the reactions from the actors, producers, news sources and so on. Try to select the important parts of the quotes, at the moment some of them are quite detailed.
Create a ==Storylines== heading.
Then add a ===Background=== section and add the background info to it, some of that Backstory info can go here.
Create a ===2008—=== heading and place the storylines under that. You're going to have be brave and trim them down, so they still provide the reader with the details, but the article no longer drowns in them. (Trimmed by
Frickative)
If you have the info and references, create a Reception section. Has Danny Miller been nominated for any awards for his portrayal of Aaron? If so, they can go here.
Speaking of references, they appear to be missing retrieval dates. I'll add them in now.
The See also section doesn't need links to the Emmerdale Cast List and The Dingle Family as you have the templates at the bottom of the article.
I hope all that makes sense and can be used to improve the article. Don't hesitate to ask me or another editor at
WP:SOAPS for any help and advice. I mainly edit Neighbours articles, but I'm happy to help out anywhere. :) -

The article is good compared to many other articles for emmerdale, quite suprised when I came across this. I am happy someone actually decided to edit it in a huge way, this could become Emmerdale's GA article soon enough if many of Junegloom's points are seen too. There will be tonnes more info for the development over the coming months. It's good some images were taken also.
RAIN the ONE(Talk)00:20, 13 April 2010 (UTC)reply
Hi Rain. I agree with you that this article has the potential to become a GA. It just needs some work and the references need to be used to their full potential, some of them have a lot of info, particularly that People interview. -

Aaron Livesy → Aaron Dingle – Before the page name destabilized (and I subsequently requested page protection), this page was at
Aaron Livesy. It appears the character's in-universe last name has changed because of a marriage. Where should the page be located? (I have no opinion on the matter and am starting the move request procedurally.)

Oppose – It should be Aaron Livesy per
WP:COMMONNAME. The character has been known as Livesy for over 10 years. All of his major storylines have occurred under this surname. The Google hits for Livesy far outweigh the ones for Dingle. -
JuneGloom07Talk14:25, 16 May 2016 (UTC)reply
Oppose per
WP:COMMONNAME, as he has been called Aaron Livesy for the vast majority of his time, as it seems the name change only occured this year whereas the character has existed as Aaron Livesy since 2003. I don't watch Emmerdale but I know who Aaron Livesy is - I wouldn't have known who Aaron Dingle is.

JuneGloom07: I know this is an old discussion and has been closed now since May 2016. However, the use of
WP:GOOGLEHITS in such discussion like this are suppose to be avoided. Plus ITV did publish an article back on
16 May 2016 which uses the headline "Aaron Dingle in 'not crying' shock!" and also further states "the actor, who plays Aaron Dingle" in regards to Danny Miller. So it would seem Dingle is the "common name". Many characters from many shows have gone through surname changes, and have become better known by over time. Just because everyone has known the character as "Livesy" for the last 13 years, doesn't mean to say not everyone knows him or will get use to knowing him as "Dingle". Wes MouseTalk02:13, 16 November 2016 (UTC)reply
Furthermore the character profiles on ITV's Emmerdale page shows his name as
Aaron Dingle. We should be reflecting correctness of the show and what character names show on the closing credits and official show profiles. Wes MouseTalk02:17, 16 November 2016 (UTC)reply
You know, I am an avid Emmerdale fan and the latest story almost makes this whole question moot! "You can change your name but not who you are..." That said, he IS Dingle: very torn therefore...! — Iadmc♫talk 07:37, 7 March 2017 (UTC)reply

Somebody changed the name to Dingle, so I changed it back to Livesy. Only the idiot that I am made a typo and now it won't let me change it again. Can somebody please amend it?

This article has not only just come to my attention, I always knew there were page issues, but after deciding to read the article. I see the major issues this article has. I don't feel I am capable enough to clean it up on my own, but I am sure with some help we could possibly make this GA. Is anyone keen to help? –

Out of all the Emmerdale articles (most of the current characters at least), Aaron's article is actually one of the better ones. Granted the storyline section could use a good trim and tidy, as the fans do seem to want to mention every last detail, but the reception section is pretty good, and almost everything in the Development section is sourced. It just needs expanding with some of his more notable storylines. Aaron is a good candidate for GA though (I think I mentioned that above years ago). Those characters without such a big fan base are the ones that need the most work. They've been neglected for a long time, see
this (old) discussion. I just don't feel I have the time at the moment to help out as much, as I've got a number of drafts that I want to finish. -
JuneGloom07Talk00:16, 12 January 2018 (UTC)reply

JuneGloom07: Fair enough. I was only asking for help as I am a little tied up with cleaning up and creating the messy Shortland Street articles, so once I am all done with that I will move on to the Emmerdale ones. I reckon to start with this page at the moment, I will get rid of the 2nd non-free image as you don't really need one if the second actor was a child and I will replace Danny Miller's one as its safe to say the current one is inferior. –
Hatio93 (

Or if you prefer the 2nd non free image of the other actor is important, we could keep it but just take it out of the ibox as it just clutters it up. –
Hatio93 (

02:11, 12 January 2018 (UTC)reply
Well, this is probably the best article to start with! If I come across anything that might be useful, I'll either add it to the article or place it here on the talk page. I think the second image should stay, as the recast is mentioned and sourced in the article. -
JuneGloom07Talk03:38, 12 January 2018 (UTC)reply
@
JuneGloom07: Okay then, I put the 2nd image in the casting section. I've started to give it an overhaul. If you could reassess once I'm all done and remove the tags if adequate, that would be awesome. Even assessing it for GA would be amazing too. –

When is this getting changed? He's known as Aaron Dingle. This is ridiculous.
Relatives
Quick query here for anyone with a wider Dale knowledge than me (as I began watching in 2018). Are all of the relatives listed in Aaron's infobox relevant to him? This goes for the majority of the Dingle clan but the length of his infobox in particular surprised me. –

DarkGlow: Actually, it looks pretty accurate. I think a few of the characters listed in the "First cousins" and "Other relatives" fields are young children though, which he hasn't had much to do with (Molly and Frankie, for example). I assume they've been added because they're in the show at the same time as Aaron, so they could be trimmed. -
JuneGloom07Talk00:46, 19 November 2021 (UTC)reply
Name change
While the majority of his storylines occurred under his other name, Aaron has still been classed as one of the Dingles long before his official name change. The audience knows the character by the Dingle surname, not Livesy.

Why hasn’t the name been changed yet? He’s a Dingle. He’s known as Aaron Dingle. Credited as Aaron Dingle. And the name Livesy is quite degrading after knowing what his character has been through. The name should have been changed months if not years ago.
