I didn't think that this really deserved its own encyclopedic entry, but maybe it's of interest to someone: the Ella Fitzgerald version of this song (recorded in 1938) is one of the gramaphone tracks in GWX for Silent Hunter 3 (138.ogg).

Thanks for pointing it out but it probably isn't notable enough to be used in the article as we cant list all the occasions when the song has been used.--SabreBD (

It is strange that a section called "Lyrics by Ella Fitzgerald" doesn't give her lyrics, but instead a misleading reference to an unspecified version. --

What is the historical significance of the original nursery rhyme? Did the current events or overarching attitudes of the late 1800s in America influence the development of the rhyme and/or children's game?
