This seems separate from the pair of sentences naming famous Rangers that you've been trying to add. Are you proposing an addition to the "history" section to add more Civil War-era info? -

The edits I have added come directly from the Army Rangers heritage webpage. They include a paragraph about Mosby's Rangers as well as Lincoln and Daniel Boone. I am proposing to include the full origin history of the rangers according to their own webpage.

Like I said, up until now you're only edit was a pair of sentences that mention that
Abraham Lincoln and
Daniel Boone were Rangers. So again, are you proposing a more substantive edit? There are some issues, first this page is already
100+Mb. Second, the current iteration of the Rangers was established in the 20th century. You may want to consider related articles that cover more of the era you seem to be focusing on, such
United States Army Rangers,
75th Infantry Regiment (Ranger) and/or 75th Infantry Regiment (United States). They also have the advantage of not being so large, that some sections may need to split off and/or merged elsewhere. -

Yes, my edits were minor. However they served to improve the flow of the two existing paragraphs which sound awkward. One paragraph is talking about the war of 1812 followed by a sentence stating "After the Civil War, more than half a century passed without Ranger units in the United States." This is nonsensical without mentioning rangers from the civil war. My edit included the few sentences that the
archived heritage page includes. The current version of the
heritage page includes even more text about Mosby. I found the archive version better, which I imagine you would agree with considering you're worried about space. Mosby was included into the inaugural 1992 class of
Fort Benning's Ranger Hall of Fame which shows they do consider him to be a ranger as well as a part of their heritage (Lincoln and Boone were added to later classes). Anyways, the paragraph I added had already existed on this page for ten years before being deleted without discussion so it's not a superfluous edit.

Well, in the context of this article, adding that pair of sentences just for sake of name-dropping seems counter-productive. Equating Lincoln and Boone with the modern special forces variant of the Rangers, without more information, will likely just lead to confusion and/or doubt for many readers. But adding the required historical context (or to even "include the full origin history of the rangers according to their own webpage") is something that would be more suited to one of the related articles noted/linked above. If anything, this page could use some slimming down. -

Then perhaps just the two sentences about Mosby. He's not a historical celebrity so it isn't name-dropping yet seems to have a mythic presence within US ranger lore, similar to Robert Rogers and Francis Marion. Either way the current sentence structure doesn't make sense.

You're the only one that seems to have problem with it. But, that said, you alluded to adding some substantial historical content, and to that end, (as I've already asked), have you considered editing the articles related to this page, such as;
Or even a new article, such as:
History of Rangers in the United States (or something similar), that would draw from all three Ranger articles, plus any other US military articles as needed, for a single, linear and comprehensive historical timeline? There's almost 300 years to cover. This of course depends on how much effort you are considering putting into this. But anyway, if this page keeps growing, it's the history section that will likely get forked off. But, as I said, I only ask because you mentioned it. -

There appears to be enough content in order to create a separate section or article in regards to Ranger history. As mentioned on:
