This is the first time when i saw a colour box before the team name, for example Click Here. This concept was made by @
Selva15469: in a good faith. These color boxes are represent the teams's flag. I think colour box does harm any information. i want to know opinion of everyone what they thinks about these colour boxes.
The "harm" is that it is unnecessary decoration in violation of
MOS:ICON. Do the colour boxes really help anyone? People aren't generally looking for the colours when searching for a team in the league table or in a list of results, so these icons are an unnecessary distraction, especially for our readers who may be visually impaired and have trouble identifying the colours. –

Agree with the above comment. This doesn't add any additional information and hence can be deemed unnecessary. This is also not some official flag like national flags which was the case in CPL.

I'm not sure they are valid in CPL either: the teams are franchises that happen to be based in different countries; they are not national teams.

Hi, @

Spike 'em:, Color boxes are added for identifying respective teams easily. Without them, one would search a team name in every 56 matches, which is quite tough. I ask sorry for not adding the alt text in color boxes, which is
important to make them accessible for the visually impaired users.
Color boxes are similar to adding colorful international flags before every teams, which helps in easier identification. They're used for encyclopedic purpose only, not decorative. "Icons should serve an encyclopedic purpose and not merely be decorative. They should provide additional useful information on the article subject, serve as visual cues that aid the reader's comprehension, or improve navigation."
@
Selva15469: Easier identification is not an encyclopedic purpose. It does not add any infos. And colors and pseudoflags have been removed from other leagues before. You can just use ctrl+F and type in keywords to find what you need.

A Simple Human:, Easier identification means reader's comprehension. It improves navigation, as we can navigate easily through many lines, by using the specific color of a team. What about the people who don't know the ctrl+F shortcut? We can also use ctrl+F for international matches, then why flags are required before international teams and their players? Wikipedia pages should be user-friendly. The color boxes have official colors of respective teams like the official flags of national teams. So, I request you and all other users kindly to support my idea. Thank you.

Get rid of these colours. This quote "Color boxes are similar to adding colorful international flags before every teams, which helps in easier identification" seems to be mis-leading - compare the boxes for Delhi and Mumbai next to each other:
I don't see how colours make them easier to identify, and
MOS:COLOR also says that colours shouldn't be used as a primary way of identifying thinhs, which is what this is trying to do. Only serious fans would know the team colours anyway, so they add nothing to a normal, casual reader.

If there is matter of team identification then this idea can be implement?
No, those are covered by
MOS:LOGO too. It also states Generally, addition of logos to article prose or tabular data does not improve the encyclopedia and leads to confusing visual clutter. whic covers color boxes too.

Also, please note that there used to be a set of {{cr-IPL}} templates that used to do this (add little coloured icons, sometimes with a stripe) and they were deleted, along with their PSL and BPL counterparts
here.

Does anyone else think that listing 10 sponsors per team is completely excessive per
WP:IINFO? It completely overwhelms the table it is part of and is of frankly no encyclopaedic value. I can see the point in perhaps the 3 shirt sponsors, but to list every logo that appears on a player's kit is too much.

The Thai league one looks completely excessive to me too. Just because another article is poorly written does not mean this one needs to as well. I think the 3 main sponsors currently listed is more than enough. What encyclopaedic value does it add to list 10 minor sponsors?

Exactly. And to be clear about my earlier comments, my preference is to get rid of all such listings as there is no particular relevance or significance to the edition of the tournament. They may warrant mention in the team articles in the context of the sponsorship deals (i.e. not an indiscriminate list) where there are sufficient reliable sources to confirm significance to the subject (e.g. main sponsors, title sponsors, etc.). In other words, it may be appropriate to detail some shirt sponsors in an article about the team they are sponsoring, but probably not in an article about the competition they play in. wjematherplease leave a message...10:34, 16 October 2020 (UTC)reply
