In 2007, this race was won by Lewis Hamilton, in his first season in the top formula. Hamilton started from pole position on the grid; it was his first Formula One victory and the first Formula One race won by a black driver. Second place was taken by
Nick Heidfeld and
Alexander Wurz was third, making it the first Grand Prix of the 2007 season that drivers from teams other than
Ferrari and
McLaren achieved podium positions.
In 2007, the race had an unprecedented four
safety car periods.[1] It also included a violent impact by
Robert Kubica's
BMW Sauber against a concrete retaining wall, from which he suffered a sprained ankle and concussion. During the race
Felipe Massa and
Giancarlo Fisichella were disqualified for failing to stop at the end of the pit lane when the exit was closed.
Here are my thoughts on improving the article further (as per
LeaveSleaves' request):
Minor grammatical issues throughout, e.g. in the lead:
"It was the seventh race of the 2008 Formula One season and the only race of the season taking place in North America." Change to "It was the seventh race of the 2008 Formula One season and the only race of the season to take place in North America."
"Hamilton hit the back of Räikkönen's car at pit lane exit". Change to "Hamilton hit the back of Räikkönen's car at the pit lane exit".
All of the sections can be expanded further, especially the practice and qualifying ones. There could also be a "pre-race" and a "post-race" section. Hamilton's and Rosberg's penalty could then be moved out of the race report section and into the post-race section.
Sebastian Vettel's name is spelt incorrectly in several places.
"Adrian Sutil had a gearbox failure on the 6th lap" - should be 16th lap.
"Felipe Massa staged a brave fightback" - a bit too
POV; should be reworded.
Some parts could use references, for example "The remainder of the drivers fought to keep their cars on the track and generally ran much slower lap times than earlier in the race as the track surface was extremely worn and there was only a single line upon which a driver was able to find adequate traction." and "For a moment it looked like the Fisichella incident would see the safety car come out again".
Some comments from drivers, team members etc. after the race could be added to the article (in the post-race section).
Yes, especially since we don't know for sure that this was the last Canadian Grand Prix ever (I mean, in 1987, we all thought the 1986 race had been "the last Canadian Grand Prix"...)
