The NFL record and fact book puts both wild card games (AFC and NFC) as being played on Mon Dec 26. I noticed Wikipedia has the AFC as being on Saturday Dec 24

Which version/year of the NFL Record and Fact Book are you looking at? It might be a typo on that particular version. The ProFootballReference web site says that the Oilers-Browns AFC wild card game was on the 24th.
[1] My copy of Total Football (
ISBNÂ
0-06-270170-3) says December 24.
This preview article from the New York Times says December 24.
This recap article from Cleveland.com/Cleveland Plain Dealer says the 24th. Same with
the Chicago Tribune's preview article. There are also these recap articles from
the Sun-Sentinel and the
LA Times that are dated December 25 (thus published the day after the game on the 24th; obviously impossible if the game was played instead on the 26th), and clearly state that the game was played on a Saturday. I can find more articles via a Google search that says it was played on Saturday, December 24, 1988.

Thanks for the reply the 2009, 1o and 12 NFLRF has it as Dec 26. I believe the R&F has the wrong date based on the other evidence
