Separation of powers
Major revamp of the lead section. Most unsourced and disputed statements should now be removed, it is more internally consistent, and it perhaps better reflects the article content. I have re-focused it on academic scholarship's narrower definition, though common usage will certainly receive its due consideration. This lead is not a final product, just as the article is not.Tags: Mobile editMobile web editAdvanced mobile edit

→See also: Updated to accord with the change I made to the redirect
balance of powers, based on the reasoning I gave for that edit. Also, added a conceptual distinction between checks and balances and separation of powers, and added a see-also link for
mixed government, the new target for the 'balance of powers' redirect.currentTags: Mobile editMobile web editAdvanced mobile edit

Balance of powers
It seems more appropriate to redirect readers to the article on mixed government (aka mixed constitution, aka status mixtus). While that is, historically, closely related the separation of powers, it is not the same thing, and ideals of mixed government are the ones to emphasize a balance of different sources of power (stable compromise between social forces). Separation of powers, by contrast, only indirectly advances any sort of "balance", in that it is often (but not always)...currentTags: Redirect target changedMobile editMobile web editAdvanced mobile edit

Separation of powers
Laying down the bare bones of a second major section ('theories of division of state power'), with some unsourced statements that I will render verifiable as soon as possible; also, adding another reference (Waldron 2013)

→Publications (selected): I've removed external links to two scanned full works at Turin University's archive, as I suspect they are hosting them in contravention of copyright. While the archive lists these works as 'pubblico dominio', the German translation is available for purchase as an e-book at the publisher's website, and the French translation is available as a 2nd ed./repr., 2002. Feel free to revert me if you have superior info on the copyrights; but
WP:LINKVIO urges caution.

→In German: Changed 'Italienisches Staatsrechts' to 'Italienisches Staatsrecht' (no s at the end): while a Google search shows other sources citing it both ways, German grammar dictates the change (the title is in the nominative case, and thus does not take a genitive 's' ending)

→Literature: Adding English-language source with many individual contributors comparing the administrative law of 14 legal systems (Uhlmann 2023), with a focus on sources of law and codification efforts

→Germany: I am deleting two sections, for three main reasons: (1) They are too detailed and therefore out of place, not to mention that they duplicate information from above; (2) their focus is on the formal details of individual statutes, which is a very roundabout way of addressing the substance of the subject; (3) they are so poorly written as to be, in parts, incomprehensible – I also suspect a copyvio (copy&paste), as there is what looks to be a footnote number in the middle of the text

Trying out the cite court template. Note sure if the ref parameter is creating a functional link from the sfn template to the full reference; I find the preview is sometimes janky when it comes to citation templates
