Edward Wright (mathematician)
Clarified the clearly original aspects of ''Certaine Errors in Navigation'' according to modern understanding of the process: the errors were first discussed by Pedro Nunes, who also proposed a first solution based on rhumb lines in 1537. Mercator published his new projection in 1569 based on this idea but with no explicit explanation of the construction and use. Wright's original contribution consist in linking Nunes with Mercator, providing the methods for construction and use of the charts.
