Battle of Rio de Janeiro
The battle of Malplaquet resulted in utter decimation of Allied forces while the French retreated in good order and were poised to resist the invaders, whereas two consequtive victories in the battles of Villaviciosa and Brihuega coupled with British surrender cemented Bourbon control over Spain. These events happened around the same time the expedition was approved and there was certainly no need of a victory at that time.
