Sedigheh Vasmaghi ( Persian: صدیقه وسمقی, born 1961) is an Iranian lawyer, poet, and reformist politician. [1] From 1999 to 2003, she was a member of the City Council of Tehran and served as the first spokesperson of the council. [2] She is described as a " post-Islamist activist and intellectual". [3]
In 2023, she addresses an open letter to the leader Ali Khamenei where she affirms that the Quran does not justify the obligation to wear the hijab. [4]
In a statement signed by 15 religious Intellectuals, she supports Abdolhamid Ismaeelzahi, sunni cleric who is facing crackdown because of his criticism against the Iranian regime during the Mahsa Amini protests. [5]
