Rustler Peak was named for the fact cattle rustlers once operated in the area. [2]
Rustler Peak is a shield volcano. However, it is forested compared to Mount McLoughlin and Brown Mountain, two other nearby volcanoes that don't have forests. Rustler Peak is considered as an extinct volcano.
