Project Ranger, launches on its mission to photograph the Mare Tranquillitatis region of the
Moon in preparation for the manned
Apollo missions. Mare Tranquillitatis or the "Sea of Tranquility" would become the site chosen for the
Apollo 11 lunar landing.
