Lynwood High School is one of the three high schools in Lynwood, California. It is a part of the Lynwood Unified School District.

Lynwood High School was originally built on Bullis Road from 1940-1998 (currently used as an middle school, Lynwood Middle School.) In 1998, Lynwood High School was relocated on Imperial Highway, formerly the site of Lynwood Adventist Academy. Lynwood High School supports approximately three thousand students of different ethnicites of the grades 9-12. Lynwood High School is known for its sports; Boys basketball, girls basketball, baseball, softball, boys soccer, girls soccer, boys tennis, girls tennis, boys volleyball, girls volleyball, track & field, and cross-country. In 2002, the "Lady Knights" won the National C.I.F Championship with a record of 33-0 in girls basketball and finished ranked No. 1 in the country. Also, the school's girls tennis team has won numerous of championships since the opening in 1998. The school music program has won countless numbers of awards there Jazz band that took 2nd place in a competition at the Monterey Jazz Festival and the marching band "Lynwood High School Royal Knights Regimental Brigade" have won numerous of 1st place and sweepstake awards. Lynwood High School provides academic programs like A.V.I.D, AFUEL, and HONORS, which help students get into college and universities. Many electives also offered incule 3D Art, Computer design/graphics/science, home economics, wood shop, auto shop, band, A.S.B., & photography.

The marching band was started during the point when the school became a full institution and able to handle a band. The names of previous band directors have not yet been retrieved and thus, any band directors from the beginning are currently lost to history.

The only director that can currently be described is Dr. Ronald Savitt. Dr. Savitt began teaching during the later half of the 1970s. Dr. Savitt's immediate predecessor was Robert "Bob" Smith, who taught at the Bullis Road school from at least the mid 1960s until his retirement and succession by Dr. Savitt.

The LHS band during Dr. Savitt's era, known by its full name as the Lynwood High School Royal Knights Marching Band or The Lynwood High School Royal Knights Regimental Brigade, performed over 25 parades a year and performed no matter the weather if it was rain, heat, snow or wind, day or night in full uniform. This unflinching attitude to perform under any circumstance allowed the band to become known around many other Southern California marching bands as a hardcore and dedicated marching band.

The band also garnered the reputation as being reliable and available to play at many diverse parades around many parts of Southern California. They would travel to Big Bear Mountain in the summer to perform at a parade, march in Los Angeles to help celebrate Chinese New Year, perform three parades in one day to help commemorate the 4th of July, and have even performed in the Los Angeles County Fair. A few times, the band had even gone out of state to perform in Las Vegas.

The marching band was also known for being able to perform at events that did not involve any marching. Such events include: the Los Angeles Raiders and Rams games,pre game for the Los Angeles Dodgers, the opening of the I-105/I-710 section of the freeway, Peter Pipers Pizza [Bell], Superior Warehouse [Lynwood] and recently the opening of Firebaugh High School in Lynwood, CA. The city of Lynwood had always relied on the band to come forth to perform for any new openings of buildings or shops and the band always performed as best as they could.

In 2006, Dr. Savitt decided to retire and the marching band has been struggling since then. At the moment (2009), there seems to be no director at the high school after having to let go two potential candidates since fall of 2006. Many citizens and former band members have expressed their discontent for the situation. The situation is currently still developing.

Despite any setbacks currently involving the music program in Lynwood High School, it is perhaps the only group that can be said to have the most awards within the school. With trophies numbering well over 300, numerous certificates, donations and a formerly well known reputation, it is hard for many to imagine this high school without an active marching band.
