ʽIrqa ( Arabic: العرقة) is a village in the Shabwah Governorate in Yemen. [1] In the 19th and 20th centuries, it was an independent city-state known as the Sheikhdom of al-`Irqa. [2] In December 2011, during the Yemeni Revolution, it was the site of an ambush. [3]
The 'Abdali Sultanate of Lahej and the Qu'aiti Sultanate of Mukalla are sufficiently organized to be described as states, while other territories, such as the Sheikhdom of 'Irqa, consist of a single town.
