The Incident in Lez was carried out in the period 1–3, September 1998 by MUP. As part of this action, KLA positions in the villages of Lez, Kustendil, Lubyqevë and Hoçë e Qytetit were attacked. The biggest conflict with KLA militants took place in the village of Lez.

The Operation

On Monday, August 31, Serbian Police surrounded Lez, and on Tuesday morning, September 1, 1998, around 08:00, they began shelling KLA positions in the hills around the village. The villagers fled to nearby Lubyqevë but some of them died or were wounded, while the KLA members remained. Around 10:00 a.m., the security forces are approaching the KLA position at a place called Livdahet te Lavdice where Serbian forces were getting attacked by KLA Forces and suffered heavy losses. A grenade exploded in the trench, killing several members of the KLA. In the afternoon, a group of security forces entered the village from the direction of the village of Kustendil, having previously clashed with a group of KLA forces in the forest above the village the Serbian Group were forced to Withdraw. During this Battle 50-100 Soldiers were Killed and 3 were Wounded. [1] [2]

After this, less intense conflicts continued in the surrounding Prizren villages. According to Albanian data, a total of 27 members of the KLA were killed. Also 42 Civilians were killed by Serbian War Criminals. On the Serbian side there were up to 100 Serbian Soldiers killed and 25 Soldiers were Wounded in the clashes around Prizren from September 1 to 5, including the conflict in Lez. [3]
