Hope Giselle (born August 2, 1993 [1]) is an African-American transgender activist and author. [2] [3]
Giselle grew up in Miami, Florida. [3] [4] She attended Alabama State University, [3] where she founded the school's first group for LGBTQ students. [5] She graduated as the first openly trans woman at the university to earn both bachelor's and master's degrees in fine arts. [3] [4] [5]
In 2022, Giselle launched AllowMe, a nonprofit that promotes the personal and professional growth of young LGBTQ people of color. [3] [5]
In June 2023, Giselle was a grand marshal of the New York City Pride March. [2]
Giselle was one of the featured speakers at the 60th anniversary of the March on Washington in August 2023, representing the National Black Justice Coalition. [2] [6] [7]
As of October 2023 [update], Giselle serves as the communications director for the GSA Network, [2] and director of training for GET Phluid. [6] [8] [9]
In 2018, Giselle published the memoir Becoming Hope: Removing the Disguise. [10] In 2021, she followed up with another memoir, Until I Met Black Men. [11]
Giselle has spoken openly about experiencing suicidal ideation in response to bullying during her freshman year of college. [3]
