Notes
Significance: The Dorchester Heights Monument is part of the Boston National Historical Park, National Park Service. The monument commemorates the fortification of the Heights which forced the evacuation of the British troops from Boston on March 17, 1776. The event marked George Washington's first major victory of the Revolutionary War. Commissioned in 1898 by the General Court of Massachusetts, the monument was designed by the architectural firm of Peabody and Stearns.
