Designed by architect Richard K.A. Kletting in a renaissance revival style, construction of the capitol building began in 1913, and was completed July 3rd, 1915.
The total cost of construction totaled 2.7 million dollars, an equivalent to 63.5 million dollars in 2012.
The building houses various levels of Utah government, including the House of Representatives and the Senate. The Supreme Court has a dedicated chamber in the east wing of the building, but conducts most of its business in the Scott M. Matheson Courthouse in downtown Salt Lake City.
