English: Eduard Scharf, a German pianist resident in Australia for 20 years, applied to be naturalized as a British subject in February 1915, his German citizenship having lapsed 10 years earlier. He had an Australian wife and son. No action was taken on his application, and a highly respected musician and teacher at the Melbourne University Conservatorium was interned as an enemy alien.
